I own a 2003 Mazda 6i (auto)which I bought specifically to drive in San Francisco. My first time driving up a steep hill with a stop sign at the top it rolled back. Of course I panicked and floored it. I do know that not all cars roll back on steep hills and it has little to do with horse power. A few years back I owned an 2005 honda civic (also auto) that has even less horsepower no problem going up hills and no rolling back. What’s this about? And what cars could you recommend that don’t roll back, are fuel efficient, oh and attractive? Please don’t say you should have kept your civic because as soon as I bought it I got pregnant with triplets. Now I’m back in a car cause we can finally fit in one. Thank you.

Horsepower has nothing to do with if you roll back on hills or not. Some cars just include a safety feature that keeps it from rolling backwards while in drive. I believe the 2012 Ford Focus (which is electric) has this feature.
If you kept your foot on the brake, you would not have this problem.
