Consider the passage in Philippians 4:6,7 (Amp)
“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ([a]definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that [b]tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall [c]garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
The Bible calls us to pray for definite, specific requests. We CAN do so. God wants us to. Sometimes, as we begin to commune with our Lord concerning detailed issues, we begin to see Him for Who He really is: He’s a big God and our issues are really nothing what we thought they were.

We of course should pray very personally & specifically about our lives, our families, our HOPES, sorrows, needs etc. A prayer that isn’t personal and specific seems a bit of a waste of our time and HIS if you ask me!
That’s exactly right. Our prayers should be for wisdom, and understanding into the meaning of the Scriptures, and their benefits. It is our spiritual guidebook specially made for us by our Creator. And when we find something new in the Scripture, we should go to God as a child; as though it were a present from God, and eagerly expecting God to show us what is in this gift of holy inspiration. Then we can grow and mature into the godly men and women that God desires for us to be.
We muslims were taught usually not to ask for someting specific when we pray only to ask God to do what he thinks is best for us. Unless we pray for someone who is sick or something like that.
We can only see what we want now but we can’t see further ahead.
Christians pray for specific things all the time!
… then they fail to observe the statistics… like rates of car accident fatalities or illness.. which *should* show that Christians fair better.
Haven’t Christians been praying for world peace for sometime now – just shows how effective prayer is.
