Confused About The Duration Of Pregnancy?

By admin Posted in: Stupid

It might be a stupid question…i am nearly 25 weeks pregnant which means that this is my 7th month? but i am due on 24th Feburary, this means that i am going to have 10 months pregnancy… i know with weeks its around about 40 weeks but why with months we have only heard of 9 months and no one ever says 10 months of pregnancy?

Your first two weeks of pregnancy you are not actually pregnant. They count your 1st day of pregnancy from your first date of your last period, and you do not actually conceive until about 2 weeks later. That puts you down to 38 weeks.
Once month is 4.33 weeks, not 4 weeks, so 38 divided by 4.33 is 8.8 months. If you count back 38 weeks from your due date on a calendar, you will see that it is not 10 months.

It’s 9 FULL months, taking it to 40 weeks. You are only a little over 6 months pregnant at 25 weeks (4 weeks in a month*6 months=24 weeks). It is dumb that people never say that you go past the 9 months mark, but that’s how it is. Wait until you’re at about 38 weeks and people ask and you say 9 and a half months pregnant. I actually had an argument with a lady who told me I couldn’t possibly be 9 and a half months pregnant. Obviously, some stranger would be able to tell me how long I’d been pregnant…

At 25 weeks you are in your 6th month… you are actually 5 months + 2 weeks pregnant. The first two weeks of the 40 weeks you are not actually pregnant. That makes it 38 weeks of pregnancy. If every month had exactly 28 days (or 4 weeks) that would make you actually pregnant for 9.5 lunar months (or if you count the whole 40 weeks it would be 10 lunar months). But because there are at least 2-3 more days in each calendar month (May 29-31: 3 days, June 29-30: 2 days, July 29-31: 3 days, Aug 29-31: 3 days, Sept 29-30:2 days, Oct 29-31: 3 days, Nov 29-30: 2 days, Dec 29-31: 3 days, Jan 29-31: 3 days… That’s an extra 24 days since your LMP was in May) you have to consider those days into your months if you’re referring to them as calendar months to other people. This makes it about 8 months and 3.5 weeks if its a total 40 week pregnancy duration (or if you actually deliver on your due date).

    OK -
You’re pregnant for 10 lunar months or 9 calendar ones
Not all months have exactly 28 days to them hence the extra *month*
    Make sense now?
**Edit: Actually week 27 starts the 3rd trimesterhttp://theparentsite.com/pregnancy/trime…
