How Do You Take A Prescription For Eye Glasses&convert It Into A Prescription For Contact Lenses?

By admin Posted in: fatigue

Is there some way you can take a prescription for eye glasses and convert it into a prescription for contact lenses? I hope it’s nothing too complicated. I’m just curious to know if it can be done. I’ve heard about the possibility, here’s an example i found online of how to convert but i suck at math and when i went to optometrist he took measurements only for my glasses prescription and he didnt do it for my contact lenses and i really have no money to spend to redo an exam again just so he can take prescription for my lenses…and i am having extremely hard time seeing clearly and it causes me fatigue.. so please help me convert my eye glass prescription into a contact lenses prescription thank you so so much.. here’s an example below of how to convert and under neath it is my eye glass prescription
Fcl = Fsp * (1 – (d/Fsp)
Fcl = 1/contact lens power in diopters ie -6.00= -0.167
Fsp = 1/spectacle lens power in diopters ie -6.50= -0.154
d = distance from the eye to the spectacle lens in meters usually 12mm = 0.012
So an example would be, using the numbers above
A spherical eyeglass prescription of -6.50 so
Fcl = -0.154 * (1 – (0.012/-0.154))
-6.02 = -0.154 * 1.078
= -6.00
You round to the nearest 0.25, there are charts that are much easier.
My eyes prescription is:
OD: -9.25 (PD = 57)
OS: -7.75 (Cylinder = -0.50 & Axis = 020)

    - 9.25 should be – 8.50
    -7.75 – 0.50 = – 8.00 which = – 7.25 , which is rarely made, so a – 7.00 will do as well
    The problem is, you don’t know what base curve you need for contacts , or what brand will work well for you. Not all brands work for all people.
    You are in Canada , which means you don’t have to pay for another exam like in the US. just for contacts.
    Take your glasses prescription to any Optician and they will fit you with contacts for only the cost of the contacts. Any Optician who fits contacts will know how to convert it , and will also do the whole trial fitting thing to find the best lenses for you.
    Nadeem has no clue what he is talking about…hard to believe he is an optometrist. He should certainly know about vertex distance conversion.

    You must get your eyes fitted for contact lenses .

    For contacts, I would order:
    OD -8.00
    OS -7.00
    I suck at math too but I Rx CL’s all the time and know the rough conversion. Also, after about -6.00, contacts can only be bought in .50 increments. So even it you could use a -8.25 we would Rx you a -8.00.
    When in doubt, go lower than higher, you don’t want a headache from too much minus in your contacts.
    For the Base Curve, stick to middle of the road, like 8.5, 8.6, 8.7, that fits most people.
    Good luck!

    Now a days contact lences gon advanced and comfortable with a tredation of using same power as your spects have.
    So you have to use
    OD: -9.00
    OS: -8.00
    because .25 differance is not available and on other hand the distt of spests from wyes also sattels.
    But you have to trial it first, every priscriber having a trial kit go for it, from where you purchase from it they have responsiability to satisfey you with the best possiable visual acuity.
