I have a Dell GX270 and the harddrive NEEDS to be replaced desperately. I was wondering if any new harddrive will do or do I need a specific one? HELP! Thanks.

I have a GX280, which is similar to the GX270. You just need a 3.5″ internal hard drive with a SATA connection. And a Philips screwdriver (a larger one) to take the brackets off the old hard drive and put them on the new hard drive so you can put it into the computer. If the GX270 is anything like the GX280 (Which it is), you should be able to open the computer without any tools. Just be careful not to shock or break anything.
You can use any hard drive you like, but are you sure you need one? If you replace the hard drive, you will need to replace the operating system, too, meaning you will need an install disk and or a product key…Are you replacing it because you are out of space, or because scandisk has marked much of the disk as having bad clusters…If the drive can be compressed, you can gain up to half as much space again as you now have free. Another solution might be to slave the drive to your current one, which means it would become the one closest to the board…and you would have to ensure that the jumpers on both drives are set correctly….i.e., master with slave for the current drive containing your operating system, and slave for the new drive you are putting in…This way, you could avoid the hassle of having to re-install an operating system, too…your current OS should recognize and allow you to format your new drive for storage as long as you make sure it is listed in your bios settings before you boot up the OS .BE SURE THE POWER IS OFF AND UNPLUGGED WHEN YOU MAKE THE CHANGES!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
