Is it just me? I feel so stupid sometimes when we have to read “difficult” things for English class and I don’t understand it so I have to spend hours re-reading and trying to get it. An example would be…SHAKESPEARE (ahhh lol). So do you sometimes find reading literature extremely difficult, or is it just me? And how do I go about being able to understand and read more easily??

It’s not just you. If you’re struggling, get the Cliff Notes (or similar product) for something you are reading and read them both as you go. Even when I don’t find something difficult, a Cliff Notes-type book always illuminates some aspect of the novel (for example, a historical event or custom that influenced the author) that I hadn’t known before.
Shakespeare is not only difficult but among the most difficult of the difficult. He had an extensive vocabulary even for his time and it doesn’t help that his plays were never meant to be read as prose.
Fortunately, practice makes Shakespeare easier to comprehend. Also you can search for “understanding Shakespeare” and get definitions for some of the words he uses most frequently. Just keep toughing it out and eventually you’ll realize that you need to look fewer things up and you’ll need to reread things less and less.
Also, there are No Fear Shakespeare books that have the Shakespeare on one side and a modern translation on the other so you can see what the heck he’s saying. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time with Shakespeare you may want to check a couple of these out until you get the feel of the language.
Haha. No one understands Shakespeare right off the bat. I promise.
