I’m an old earth creationist (OEC). I accept evolution and the face that the world is FAR more than ten thousand years old.
I’m told this means I’m not actually a Christian.
Apparently, God could not have created evolution and humans and apes don’t share a common ancestor because that isn’t the way our book says it happened. I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God–I also believe that it was written by fallible humans, within the context of the time they lived, and that a lot of it is metaphor. Metaphor and analogy are important ways of explaining things one would otherwise not understand. It makes sense that they would be plentiful in any text that attempts to explain the supernatural.
So what do you think? I’m not going to change these beliefs because someone tells me I’m going to hell or another tells me I’m stupid because God doesn’t exist. I just want to know what you think. No TDs from me.

You know what? You can believe whatever you want to believe, because you are a human being with free will. God Bless.
I don’t see why it would be a problem. Most of the stuff in the creation stories are the result of an ancient culture seeking ways to explain how they got here (if you read closely Gen has two different versions of the creation), plus I doubt that we are supposed to believe every little thing in the bible is supposed to be absolute fact.
Also how is it that evolution or the big bang even are not the mode in which a force of divine nature created?
It is good that you do not blindly follow what those folks who tell you that because of your belief you are not Christian.
I’m with you… but I don’t call myself a creationist.
I don’t see any reason why accepting scientific theories means a person can’t be a Christian. That’s just silly.
Besides, people have taken Genesis as allegory for many hundreds of years, since at least the 1st century AD. If they didn’t have a problem with it then, why should anyone have a problem with it now?
On the creation issue, there are a lot of shallow people out there. Here’s a test for them. If they believe the religious dictates told them, including that they will go to Heaven when they die and see their families and live the good life, why, when the get cancer do they go to medical science for a remedy? The problem with taking big, sweeping general positions is that it is hard to live consistently with them. That’s their problem not yours.
God authored the bible , man only penned it for Him. 2 Peter 1:21 ” For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Evolution isn’t a proven fact it is a theory.
Peace.
In reality the Bible does not disclose the length of each creative ‘day’, but, they are ended, unlike the day of rest, which still continues thousands of years after it began.
Evolution is not accepted by any honest scientist, and it is incompatible with what the Bible really teaches.http://hubpages.com/hub/Science-and-Reli…http://hubpages.com/hub/Bible-Disputes-S…http://hubpages.com/hub/Origin-of-the-Un…http://hubpages.com/hub/Biblical-Questio…
I happen to believe that one day….and ultimately spiritual or eternal truths & scientific truths will all come together in perfect harmony and our full knowledge & understanding. Clearly, that is NOT to be in this life.
I mean, after all GOD created all things and knows all things and is PERFECT in all things. It’s just MAN who isn’t any of those things, right? We’ll get it one day.
People telling you that you are not actually a Christian unless you buy their version of Christianity is involking the No True Scotsman fallacy. Familiarize yourself with it, because certain Christian sects will try to use it often.
I think you are a Christian who has some sense. If everyone were like you, the world would be much more tolerable. I think it would be better still if we were all atheists, but your line of thinking is a step in the right direction.
I think that is a very plausible belief.
“I’m told this means I’m not actually a Christian.”- I get told this often (I’m R. Catholic)
Yes. You’re allowed to believe what you want.
Some people believe that it is all a metaphor. If God created the big band and evolution then didn’t he create man?
I’m a Christian. Am I allowed to accept scientific fact. I believe in a young earth.
Without a doubt for it is encouraged as long you do not embrace a scientific theory that exalts itself above the knowledge of God.
Most christians I know who started going in the direction of science are no longer christians, including myself.
Take from that what you will.
Believe whatever you want to believe, don’t let others decide you are not a “true christian” for you
if you start believing evolution then you believe lies..I am also old earth. There was a void after war with satan and THEN GOD REMADE this world…but He still created it!!!
No! You can’t be a true Christian if you think for yourself! Let some one else (your preacher) tell you when to drink the kool-aide!
Who is this thought-police who decides what you’re “allowed” to believe?
Given what we know about evolution, it is impossible to reconcile those facts with the idea of a loving creator.
Yes you are a christian. ALL science does is verify Genesis. If Jesus is in the picture the TRUTH will be found. John 3:16 God Bless
Many christians believe as you do. I am an atheist so I don’t have that concern, which is nice.
As long as your beliefs don’t harm others, believe anything you like. That’s MY belief.
by the govornment, yes, by your book, no.
Do you believe Christ died on the cross to pay for your sins? Did you prayer the Sinners’ Prayer?
One man can’t judge another man’s heart.
People are basically stupid. You have to ignore them and decide what you think is truth.
You learn who to talk to and that some things are not worth the strife it takes to explain them .
I have lived a life that was devoted to serving God . I have made choices that reflect my decision to forgive people who have gravely harmed me. I don’t have a problem with evolution because I don’t consider the Bible to be the same as the living word who is Jesus. I rarely mention this to Christians because it just offends them and my ego is not wound up in setting the whole world straight and thinking exactly like me. Revelation comes as it comes and not all people will have the truth about all things. We are not saved by facts but by the work of the cross.
I hope this answer here will help you understand the creationism vs evolution debate in a Christian context:
Yes, there’s a lot of ways you can read the creation story. However, consider the fact that evolution, while having a lot of evidence to back it up, still remains a theory. Also, how long has creationism been around? Take that and compare that to how long evolution has been around. Over the years, one scientific fad has been replaced by another, but with God, there is a constant.
Creationism has been around at least since God first had a relationship with humans, and it has been condemned and beaten over the head by scholars many times, but yet, the fact remains that there are millions in the world who still believe that that is the way to go. For that to happen is truly remarkable. Most ideas would simply vanish, but for creationism to still survive shows that it has true staying power.
Now, just because you believe in God-ordained evolution does not mean that you’ll go to hell, as we as humans are all guilty of believing in/doing stupid things (it’s just part of our nature). I just wanted to give you this explanation to help you understand why many Christians (such as myself) believe in creationism of some sort.
The core of Christianity is this: Do you truly believe that Jesus Christ came and died for your sins, and then rose again and has promised to come back again? If you believe that, then Jesus will let the rest fall in place (including whether to choose creationism or evolution that was ordained by God).
EVERYTHING that makes up this universe was put here by God…. and that includes all the “laws” that govern all of the functions of the universe………. evolution is one tool for the study of all that God has put here for us to learn……… it is a “Theory”…. not a law / fact……….. the study of what God has provided is expected by God…. but… we are to worship God, not what he has created….. that is the problem with the religion which has sprung up around evolution theory…….it worships incomplete understanding….. not The Truth… nothing in God’s creation is to be worshiped
As a Christian, you can accept scientific fact. The Bible even corroborates scientific fact. For instance, science has shown that the earth is held up by gravity, not a group of animals. Job 26:7 supports that fact because it says that God “is hanging the earth upon nothing”. So, again, there is nothing wrong with accepting science as true as long as it doesn’t contradict what is fact. Now, you say you’re a Christian and believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word, yet you accept evolution. How can you do that? Genesis 1:1 leaves no doubt as to how the world came about. It clearly states: “In [the] beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Hebrews 3:4 even says: “Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but he that constructed all things is God.” Simple as that. How can you believe in evolution when the Bible says God created everything? So I reiterate – there is nothing wrong with accepting science as true as long as it doesn’t contradict what is fact. But the idea of evolution goes totally against the fact that God created the heavens, the earth, and everything that inhabits them.
Make sure it’s FACT
A whole of of suppositions and surmissals and down right lies, being sold as “fact” right now
Evolution is not a fact.
