Lol, before you think I’m stupid I’m trying to distinguish what they look like. For instance jeans may be skinny but I’ve heard they aren’t skinny jeans. What I think skinny jeans are are the jeans that are tight on the ankles and get looser towards the waste. Can anyone clarify?

i think you may be confusing it with straight legged jeans. They are similar, but as the name implies, straight jeans don’t get tighter at the ankles, while skinny jeans do. If you are still confused, google some images and there will be tons and tons of “hipsters” sporting them.
