Ever since I was young I have always had a fear of bad weather. I saw a lot of damage done to the city I lived in and every year we had tornadoes rip through in the spring. The fear when I was younger has become progressively worse. At this point, anytime I see that there is going to be severe weather, my stomach begins to hurt and I start to worry until it has passed. This can even happen a day or two before the weather is expected. During the other seasons I do not have any anxiety, and nothing else makes me worry other than tornadoes.
Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? Should I see a doctor about this?

Based on your experience, it’s easy to see why you have developed the type of anxiety you have with bad weather. While some people learn to successfully manage their anxiety levels on their own, others experience greater degrees of difficulty in doing so. It appears as though your anxiety level has increased to the point where you find it impossible to work through by yourself, therefore seeing a doctor and/or counselor may be helpful. A doctor/counselor can help you explore the physiological reactions you’re having and help determine how serious they are and what will be the best way to deal with them. Consulting a health professional may be the thing you need to do to help you work things out.
