Why Do People Panic When A Serial Killer Is On The Loose?

By admin Posted in: panic

Thousands and in some cases millions live in every city-town. And it’s rare for a serial killer’s victim toll to reach 50. So your chances of being a victim almost don’t exist. Plus serial killers usually target a certain type. (ex homeless, or hookers) I remember when Ted Bundy was on the loose and old ladies were scared. *sigh* Sorry I don’t know where to post this?

Because they represent an immediate danger to life. People panic when a pattern of burglaries is going on in their neighborhood, or a sex offender moves nearby.
Serial killers are deeply troubled individuals. Some of them target a certain gender (i.e. female, dark hair, thin with nice smile) or whatever might interest them. Others are totally random, they kill everything and everyone, then burglarize a place or steal things.
The whole game changes when you have a sociopath vs a psychopath or a violent sex offender who reinvented himself/herself as murderer.
You point a common stereotype with homeless folks or prostitutes because no one would report them missing right away, but they’re still victims and someone’s kid, sister, brother or parents.

It’s the idea of it – it’s chilling to imagine people that can just kill without guilt like that, and when they’re still out there roaming, it feels like we don’t have control. When police can’t catch a person like that, what other people can’t they catch out there? I agree with you that the chances of coming into contact with THAT person are virtually insignificant, but it’s the idea that people LIKE that are out there running free.

    lol are you serious ?
i understand that we have to let the law deal with these psychopaths – but its unfair to say we ought to walk out of our houses and into the open feeling 100% safe and secure, when the harsh reality of modern life suggests otherwise.
there was a movie about one serial killer who struck in the US in the 60s and eventualy they identified him in 1991, but he died of a heart attack.
anyone know the name of it ?? i saw it a year ago.

because no one wants to die, no matter how slim the chances are, especially if its in some sort of freakishly painful way. And what if you know that you’re the “type” that the killer likes. even more reason to be scared, or at least really careful.
